“This is the United States of America, and it is past time, in my opinion, that we start acting like it,” Ms. Britt said. “President Biden’s border policies are a disgrace.”As a rhetorical device, it would be hard conjure up a more powerful and resonant example. In a video released shortly after that trip, Ms. Britt discussed Ms. Jacinto’s experiences. “I thought it was very strange.”She said she preferred to keep politics out of the question of human trafficking. “The work I do is not a game.”A spokesman for Ms. Britt, Sean Ross, stood behind her speech.

"I have decided to not participate in the electoral race for President of the Republic," the 35-year-old Garcia said in a statement from the Nuevo Leon government made public by his center-left Citizens' Movement (MC) party. Garcia then became embroiled in a dispute about who would replace him in Nuevo Leon, where his political opponents control the state legislature, which votes in the interim governor. Recent opinion polls have given Garcia around 10% support in the presidential race, putting him behind Xochitl Galvez, candidate of the main opposition alliance.

Reuters —Mexico’s largest airline has offered to fly Olympic divers Alejandra Orozco and Gabriela Agúndez to this year’s world championships for free after government funding cuts forced them to try to find ways to pay their own passage. Elite Mexican aquatic athletes have been driven to selling towels and bathing suits among other fundraising initiatives since government funding was cut in a row over the governance of the Mexican Swimming Federation (FMN). Moments later, however, they received an on-air call from an Aeromexico executive, who said the airline would ferry the entire diving team to the Aquatics World Championships in Japan in July. The Aeromexico offer is not the first case of private initiative coming to the aid of Mexico’s aquatic athletes. Billionaire businessman Carlos Slim, through his philanthropic foundation, funded the Artistic Swimming team’s trip to the World Championships in Egypt, where they won three golds and a bronze earlier this week.

[1/4] Migrants, without a place to stay upon arrival in the city, seek safe shelter at the District 12 station of the Chicago Police Department in Chicago, Illinois, U.S. May 17, 2023. Some migrants seeking a safe place to sleep have turned to police stations. Earlier this month, Texas Governor Greg Abbott, a Republican, resumed a campaign of busing migrants to Democratic strongholds further north, including Chicago and New York City. The busing aims to alleviate pressure on border cities and call attention to what Abbott says were overly lenient policies by Biden's Democratic administration. New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a Democrat, has called on the Biden administration to provide more funding to cities receiving recently arrived migrants.
He also had a big dream: to bring the food of their home country to Detroit. He competed in a local entrepreneurship program in 2017, and the couple won the $50,000 prize to help them get their restaurant started. They finally opened the doors to their airy restaurant, Baobab Fare, in early 2021 — in the throes of the pandemic. “Mamba is what you want the rest of humanity to be like,” said Elizabeth Orozco-Vasquez, the chief executive of Freedom House Detroit. Growing up in Burundi in East Africa, Mr. Mamba, 42, learned to cook traditional regional flavors from his mother, who owned a restaurant.

Insider spoke with 5 women — a Vegas showgirl, 2 bikini baristas, a bottle girl, and a shot girl — about their jobs. Courtesy of Jenna FurioJenna Furio is a 36-year-old showgirl in Las Vegas who got started when the pandemic hit. "Everybody thinks it only takes a beautiful face and body to be a Las Vegas showgirl," she added. Read more: I'm a Las Vegas showgirl who dances on the Strip. Harmon has used the tip money she earned to buy a new car and go on trips to Las Vegas and Hawaii.
"Bottle girl" is slang for girls who work in clubs and do bottle service specifically, but both terms describe what I do. I got the job two weeks after I turned 21, so I hadn't even officially been to a club yet. All the clubs in Las Vegas, mine included, are usually open one weekday and then on the weekends. Our job is to guide them through the night, although we're supposed to sell to them and encourage them to buy. But I know some girls who are uncomfortable about handshakes and high fives because in a nightclub we just don't really know where people's hands have been.
